Kent Miller is an assistant professor of photojournalism and new media in the department of journalism at Central Michigan University.
He has been a photojournalist since 1988 working as a staff photographer for the Flint Journal for eight years and a photo editor for the Bay City Times for eight years.
Miller holds a master’s degree in communication and multimedia from Saginaw Valley State University.
Miller’s photography has been published in numerous magazines, including Nat Geo France, Germany’s View Magazine, Australia’s The Who Weekly, Newsweek, People, Playboy, The Missouri Review, Wilderness and True North; in newspapers, including USA TODAY, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Detroit Free Press; and in books, including America 24/7, Michigan 24/7, Tall Ships, A Day in the Life of Bay County and Jackson24.
He has given presentations on the subject of photojournalism to the Society of Professional Journalists, CMU’s Story Festival, the Michigan Press Association, and the Michigan Community College Press Association. Miller has also exhibited photographs in numerous venues in Michigan and throughout the country.
Miller has traveled to Alaska several times as a photographer for the National Park Service. He has arranged agreements for photo/new media interns to work in Denali National Park and Kenai Fjords National Park.
